One of the most blatant uses of animals as commodities is the canned hunt.  These so-called "hunts" trap the animals in an enclosed space, then allow people to kill them for a fee.  Want to experience the joy of murder? Join a canned hunt.  Some of the animals come from zoos - hardly wild animals.  Others are even more tame, being fed daily and treated as completely dependent, domesticated animals. Then the paying customer shows up, and they are sold for a price. Some of these animals are simply standing, eating, or lying beneath a tree when the "hunter" approaches and kills them. Here in Texas there are canned hunts that still take place and net a profit of one billion dollars per year. Stories of  a declawed leopard being killed while hiding under a truck, or hand-fed animals standing in their pens while being shot by arrows, cause even most ardent hunters to be outraged.

While the hunting of endangered species has been outlawed, there is still a huge market for exotic animals as hunting "trophies."  Men with high powered rifles and trucks hunt down animals purchased to be game and confined to a "ranch."  Pictures are taken of the men in their camouflage gear, with their rifle in hand, and the dead animal at their side - but the chain linked fence that confined the animal is carefully out of sight of the camera.  While hunting is declining due to loss of habitat, loss of interest, and diminishing wildlife, these hunting ranches provide an economic incentive to the ranch owners to stay in business. It is slaughter for sale.

For those people who are too lazy to get out of their chair, there is the innovative business started by John Lockwood called Live-Shot.com.  For a hefty fee, you can kill an animal right from your computer chair.  Lockwood has a loaded gun hooked up and aimed at a feed area for the animals.  You can simply click your mouse and BAM! an animal drops dead.  Or not. Sometimes they are only wounded, so Lockwood has to go out and finish the job.  This heinous practice has been outlawed in 38 states already; let's hope the other 12 will get on board soon.  To add your voice to the protest, see the petition link below.
