After hours of driving and a cold night at the rest stop, Cambridge and Boston were finally in sight. The plan was to arrive at the Whitman House Inn, seen above, a cozy little bed and breakfast in Cambridge at about 9:00 a.m., greet our host, drop off our bags and catch the train into Boston for a 10:30 Trolley Tour.
Surprisingly, it was quite easy to find the Whitman House. A couple of turns down a couple of one-way streets and there it was. The quaint little historic home stands among others examples of beautiful architecture just a couple of blocks from the subway, or the T, as it is known in Boston.
The hosts of the Whitman House are David and Robert. David is very warm and welcoming. He is very interested in his guests and if ever one plans to stay there, they must be ready to talk a bit about themselves.   Aside from that, he is very helpful in giving traveling hints and suggestions as to what one might enjoy in the area. The house itself is extremely clean and beautifully designed. A tasteful remodel of an historic structure would be one of many ways to describe it. Each room has a closet, a large flat-screen television with a vast number of channels, and a bed suitable for the gods. After a long day of exploring Boston, a deep, comfortable night’s sleep is extremely important. Nothing less will be had at the Whitman House. The Whitman House is pictured above, but be sure to visit the website to view additional information and interior photographs.
After a lengthy discussion with David and scrounging a Boston guidebook from one of the backpacks, it was off to the T. Within minutes, it seemed, we were at the first Trolley Stop near the New England Aquarium at 200 Atlantic Avenue.  Old Town Trolley Tours takes riders on a 16 stop tour of the best spots in Boston.  The best bit of advice when visiting Boston is to take a complete Old Town Trolley Tour immediately and take note of all of the places that you would like to go back to.  Spend the rest of the day, or the rest of your trip visiting the locations that interested you the most.
An easy favorite stop would be the Paul Revere House in Little Italy.  Surrounded by many shops and great restaurants, the Paul Revere House blends with its surroundings.  It is a well preserved, beautiful example of Colonial Architecture.  The second story overhang, casement windows, solid door, and shake roof  are classic elements of Colonial design.  Once inside, the most prominent feature is the massive fireplace that takes up an entire wall and would have served as the center point of life in its day.  Fire places such as these were a source of light, warmth, and mode of food preparation.  To say that these fireplaces were essential would be an understatement.  The creaking, wide planked, pine floors show evidence of over a century of wear.  Full of period artifacts, newspaper clippings of the time, and personal Revere family letters, the Paul Revere House serves as a tourist attraction as well as a historic landmark, museum, and national treasure.  No one can travel to Boston and not see the Paul Revere House, which is pictured to the right in a photo captured while on this particular road trip.  Boston and the surrounding area is home to so many wonderful things to do and see.
There are so many other "must-sees" in the city of Boston.  Far too many to discuss in this single post.  For that reason, continue checking back to follow this trip and learn of many of the other best places to visit in Boston including best places to get a coffee, a good burger, or a delicious cookie and slice of cake.  If you missed the stories leading up to the arrival in Boston, click the link to get up to speed.  Do not forget to check out the first leg of the trip which started from Minnesota to North Carolina.
