Drive to the top five: top five Minnesota, winter road trip destinations #4

The uniqueness alone of this scenic location would easily land Lake of the Woods at the top of any Minnesota, road trip possibilities list, but the numerous activities, great lodges, and scenic views, combine to land Lake of the Woods in my #4 spot.
Located right near the Canadian border, Lake of the Woods provides the true “up North” feel. Stunning throughout the year, the winter season provides some of the most amazing scenery imaginable. With the snow piled high and the massive evergreens reaching for the sky, the opportunities to take magnificent photos are countless. This photo is provided by Dennis Anderson of the Star Tribune.
The lodging in the area is rivaled by none. The Wildwood Inn Bed and Breakfast, for example, is the perfect place to take the family on a trip up to Lake of the Woods. This bed and breakfast provides excellent meals and Sunday brunches. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. And most importantly, the Wildwood Inn is just minutes from snowmobiling, ice fishing, hiking, cross country skiing, and numerous additional activities. The Lake of the Woods area is also home to many more resorts and retreats that are perfect for the sportsman. So take the family and stay at an elegant inn, or head up north with the buddies or your youngsters for some ice fishing and pool shooting. None-the-less, there is a place to stay!
Now is the perfect time to go. There is 8-13 inches of ice on the lake and the walleye are biting nicely. And it won’t be long now before the snowmobiling is at its best. Get the gear ready to go and enjoy a trip to, arguably, one of the most beautiful places in the country and my #4 Minnesota road trip destination, Baudette—Lake of the Woods, Minnesota.
This area’s stunning features, lodging, and numerous activities will leave no one wanting more. It is sure to be a fantastic trip for all!
