Stretching is essential when it comes to working out. Many of us tend to ignore this aspect when we drag ourselves to the gym day in and day out. Sometimes you may go to the gym and your back, upper neck and legs all feel stiff and tight. The workout thereafter can pose itself to be difficult and strenuous thus leading to halt in progress. So why stretch? Oftentimes our posture can make our appearance seem unfit. If your hamstrings are tight, your lower back could be weak causing an outward protrusion of your belly. Now who wants that!!! Stretching exercises help increase blood flow to allow more lucid movements when you weight train. Stretching also prevents joint injury and can help with many various types of muscles imbalances.
Helpful Hint: 3-5 minutes of light cardiovascular activity before a resistance workout is sufficient to warm the bodies muscles for proper lifting in terms of range of motion. The link above can be used post exercise to help with tightness, stiffness and muscular imbalances, which can actually make your outward appearance seem bigger than you are. Food for though, if your slouch in your natural erect position when you stand, the lower abdomen becomes suppressed and creates a bulge. Standing up properly while pulling your shoulders back pulls the abdomen back in and the bulge becomes less visible. Its that easy folks.. You stretch every morning when you wake, it feels nice, the same should apply to you workouts!
