With the recent unemployment numbers released today  and the holidays around the corner, the season will be tough for a lot of people.  Celebrites like Mary J. Blidge are doing through their part  to give back to the community at large.

Mary J. Blidge co-created her foundation FFAWN, with Steve Stoute in 2007.  FFAWN is designed to first help women in her native Yonkers, NY in time will serve the Greater New York area.  The mission: to inspire women from all walks of life to gain the confidence and skills they need to reach their individual potential.

Mary also took her love for fashion and collaborated with Gucci to design a limited edition watch. Sold at Gucci and select department stores, this big ticket item can help FFAWN achieve their goals and a fashionista stay stylish.  Gucci is donating $100 from the GUCCI FOR F.F.A.W.N.’ TWIRL WATCH to the FFAWN foundation.

For more on FFAWN see their website at  ffawn.org

Most of my life was centered around living for the moment. I had very few resources and very little real life education to make good decisions. What I did have was a voice and that ultimately became my vehicle of growth. I, with Steve Stoute, created FFAWN: The Mary J. Blige and Steve Stoute Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now, Inc. because I believe every young woman, if given encouragement and a helping hand (a hand filled with resources), can reach her greatest potential. It is my great hope that FFAWN will be a vehicle to help other women reach greater heights despite their environment, despite low self esteem, despite their immediate circumstances."
