Jaycee Dugard is showing her face to the world for the first time since being rescued from her kidnapper after being held against her will for 18 years. Returned to her family just seven weeks ago, she is grateful for the amount of support she has received from so many people and wants the world to know, "I'm so happy to be back with my family," she states in an interview with People Magazine.
Dugard, now 29, is living with her mom, Terry Probyn, 50, and the two daughters, Angel, 15, and Starlit, 11, who were fathered by her alleged kidnapper, Phillip Garrido. Many psychology experts are shocked that she came out to the public so soon after returning home. The media will no be hunting her down now that they know what she looks like and Dugard has a long recovery ahead of her. No one can possibly grasp the damage that was done to this child turned woman while being held against her will since the age of 11. To begin the bonding process with her family again, she is riding horses, cooking and is thinking of collaborating on a book. "They live a surprisingly normal life, considering the circumstances," says Terry's stepmother, Joan Curry.
This story will continue to fascinate the public for many years to come as we can only begin to understand the uphill battle Jaycee and her two daughters will have to overcome as they deal with their new realities. Although not much is revealed in the interview with People Magazine, I think she was trying to just say thank you for the support, this is me and I need some time to heal. I can imagine eventually she will be on Oprah talking in detail of what her life was life for those horrible 18 years and what it is like to get a second chance at having a life back that is your own.
