state fair
Excitement of a State Fair (Public Domain)
The annual state fair (typically held sometime in the fall/autumn) is one of the largest events for the particular area where the particular state fair is held. Most state fairs contain a wide variety of activities that will interest people of all ages. From carnival rides, to "fair" food, to exhibits
and competitions pertaining to agriculture, a state fair will provide a day or more of fun for the entire family. This article will explain how to find and attend a state fair near you.

Go on to the internet and perform a search for "state fair" in the state where you live or a nearby neighboring state if you live near a state border area.

An internet search simply for "state fair" will produce a list of links to the largest specific state fairs across the United States. But if you perform a search for "state fair" and "your state" (replace your state with the name of your state) the top result should be the official site of the state fair for your state.

On the particular state fair website, you should find information about opening and closing times, dates that the fair is open, all the activities and events at the fair, and much more. The site will help you plan your trip to the state fair, particularly if you have to travel a ways to get there. (see “For More Info” below for example of specific state fair sites).

Once you are at the fair, be sure to explore the vast grounds and participate in the various activities such as: carnival rides and games; traditional "fair" food such as corn dogs, hot dogs, hamburgers, funnel cakes, various fried delicacies, and more; music performances by various groups representing different types of music; exhibits on agriculture, produce, livestock and other farming items; contests of various kinds; and much much more.

For readers in Charlotte and the Carolinas, the North Carolina State Fair (in Raleigh, October 15-25, 2009) and the South Carolina State Fair (in Columbia, October 14-25, 2009) both occur in October.

Remember, be sure to bring a jacket for crisp autumn days and evenings. Also, bring cash to pay for entrance fees, carnival ride and attraction tickets, food, and more. Now attend your state fair with your family and friends and you will be sure to have a fun-filled fall day and evening!
