Traveling to a national forest area makes for a great day trip or weekend trip, much in the same way as mentioned previously in the article about national parks near Charlotte. Charlotte’s location in the central Piedmont of North Carolina on the border with South Carolina puts the metro area in close proximity to several national forest areas and all of the picnicking, hiking, camping, and other recreational opportunities available. This article lists national forest areas within proximity to Charlotte, in and around the Carolinas and surrounding states, that are easily accessible for either a day or weekend trip.
