The Rev. Billy is running for mayor of the Big Apple. Visionary comic pastor and activist Reverend Billy Talen says he wants to free New York City from the creep of the corporate monoculture of Starbucks and other chain stores. He says we can adopt sustainable consumption to save our souls and protect our planet from environmental destruction. He's also campaigning to help the city's hundreds of neighborhoods thrive.
The New York Times reports the candidate has the support of the Green Party in New York, members of whom approached the street theatre veteran in December about running. Supporters are mounting a petition drive to get him on the ballot.

The late Al Lewis (Grandpa on the TV series "The Munsters") ran on the Green ticket some years ago for Governor of New York.
