This post will pose more questions than it answers.
The basic question is, "What is fair?"
Is "I know 'fair' when I see it" an answer? Dunno.
This issue hit the Web last month and got new shelf life on Sunday night at the Oscars (registered trademark).
The child actors in "Slumdog Millionaire", especially Rubina Ali and Mohammed Azharuddin Ismail, were paid pitifully small sums of money for their work and apparently still live in dire poverty in Mumbai. They did participate in the award festivities.
Does art reflect real life or is the opposite true?
Globalism is with us whether we like it or not and that includes the arts industry.
Greenies usually endorse 'fair trade".
Fair Trade means an equitable and fair partnership between global marketers and producers in Asia, Africa, Latin America and other parts of the world. A fair trade partnership works to provide low-income artisans and farmers with a living wage for their work.

The above is simply a definition and applications globally may differ. This post is of value.
If one searches the phrase "fair trade" you get references mostly to coffee. Most appropriate. But we ought to be looking toward wider applications for "fair" and "trade".
Two more fair trades of interest are here and here. Oscar mention from another Sacramento Examiner here.
Just another night with Oscar. Below is a great slideshow and thanks to AP!!
