It's official. The Electoral College has elected Barack Obama President of the United States.
The electors met Monday in all 50 state capitals from Cheyenne to Montgomery (including Sacramento)
and when the votes were counted the election of November 4th was certified.
In the nation's most populous state, the Sacramento Bee quoted California Assembly Speaker Karen Bass, the first African-American woman to hold the post, "It is certainly a sign of the progress that is possible that I am welcomed to the task of officially electing Barack Obama of Illinois as the next president of the United States," she said. She also told the electors they were participating in one of the nation's oldest rituals.
The 55 California electors cast their ballots after Obama had past the threshold of 270 electoral votes.
