Yesterday, Saturday November 7th I drove across the Bay Bridge, encountered the “S” curve coming and going without incident primarily due to the fact that I reduced my speed to the posted 40 miles per hour speed limit. I had seen many drivers and motorcycle riders attempting to go through the “s” curve at speeds considerably faster than me and a few of the other drivers in the adjacent lanes next to or near my lane..
What was apparent to me at both instances these drivers appeared to be either in a hurry or were morbidly curious to see what their “cars or bikes” could do on this type of curve at higher rates of speed., Some of the other drivers seemed oblivious to the sudden impact of the curve and hit their brakes in what looked like an “OMG” panic reaction to a tight turn.
The link I have attached is to Justin Berton’s article in yesterday’s San Francisco Chronicle titled another crash on the Bay Bridge S-curve. With what I had seen and experienced yesterday I imagine we’ll hear more about crashes on this part of the bridge, hopefully for those who drive the bridge they will apply some common sense in order to safely pass through this obvious hazard.
