How safe is it to drive in the city? That depends on who you ask, what happens when we ask other drivers or pedestrians as opposed to reading statistics, which usually report the end result of a driver’s choice, how about the things we experience on a daily basis.

As a result of various conversations with drivers throughout town, traffic violator school students as well, the following is a top ten list of frequently encountered bad or inconsiderate drivers and their common driving choices experienced by other alert San Francisco drivers, and the reasons for it.

1. Double Parking, it's okay, since there isn’t any parking and nobody will care, I will only be a minute, and the line in starbucks isn’t that long. The other cars can wait or go into the lane of oncoming traffic to move around my car.

2. Last minute turn signal use, “Oh I forgot something” why bother, nobody else really uses their turn signals that much either.

3. “Another stop sign” I will roll through it slowly since nobody is around, and I will stop when I absolutely have to.

4. “What pedestrian” I can proceed through the crosswalk once they clear the front of my car.

5. If the speed limit on 19th avenue is 35 mph and I can make every light, I bet I can make every light at 45 mph. or 55mph so what if somebody pulls out in front of me, i will just swerve out of their way.

6. “A parking spot” it’s on the other side of the street if I flip a u-turn I can get it before anyone else does.

7. “What do I need to look for” there aren’t any other cars turning off of Parnassus to go up Stanyan, I will just pull out in front of them.

8. What was that flash at the intersection, was it from the red light?

9. I’m a bicyclist, why do I have to stop at a stop sign, it’s too much work to take my foot off my pedal, and put it on the ground at the intersection to stop.

10. (tie) I will talk on my cell phone, impede the flow of traffic and make other drivers pass me on the right side of the road. So what if I get caught it’s only $20.00.

10. I will drive as close to your bumper as I possibly can and trust my cat like reflexes in the event that you have to stop suddenly.

Drive carefully don’t be a part of this list if you can help it   !
