Food combining has long been an idea that has been popular among the health conscious. Now research is starting to back some of those ideas up!
Below are some examples:
- Vinegar added to sushi rice reduces the glycemic index of the rice by as much as 35 percent.
- Vitamin C rich foods increase the absorption of Iron. So combining things like mandarin oranges in a fresh green salad could increase the amount of iron you uptake.
- Cruciferous veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, etc) and tomatoes can compliment each other due to different bio active compounds that utilize different pathways to combat illness.
- Almonds and red wine could be combined to possibly add up to the antioxidant effects of Vitamin A and Vitamin E.
- Good fats and veggies can be combined to allow the phytochemicals to be better absorbed by the body.
