The Tennessee Titans are on the road this Sunday as they meet the San Francisco 49ers live from historic Candlestick Park. Kickoff will be at 3:15 CST as this game marks the first NFC match up of the season for the Titans.  Tennessee will be looking for their second consecutive win behind the leagues leading rusher in Chris Johnson and recently re-appointed Vince Young at quarterback.

For the 1-6 Titans, an overall consistency has been the general problem that persists to plague the team.  In the first two weeks of the season, the team was competitive against the Steelers and Texans, just losing by field goals in each contest.  Week Three they were in a primed position to win the contest but key fumbles in the return game handed the victory to the Jets. Week Four, hmm…blown out by the Jags.  Week Five, hmmm… blown out by the Colts.  Week Six, hmmmm…annihilated by the Pats.

Losing has been their only consistent statistic, other than Chris Johnson charging all over the league. But last Sunday, on the play calling of Bud Adams, against Head Coach Jeff Fisher's will, the tune finally came together. In historic Titans fashion, Vince Young, Chris Johnson and LenDale White combined for 430 yards and three touchdowns, but most importantly, guided their team away from their miserable losing streak, which still dated back to last season.

The San Francisco 49ers have experienced a bit of their own losing streak as of late.  After starting the season 3-0 with wins against all-three division opponents,  (Seahawks, Rams and 2008 NFC Champion Cardinals) the 49ers have now lost four in a row. (Vikings, Falcons, Texans, Colts) San Francisco is aiming to reach .500 on the year with a win against the now unpredictable Tennessee Titans.

In the wake of the Niners losing streak, another ex-starting quarterback has surfaced to reclaim his role.  Former Utah QB and 2005 NFL number one overall draft pick Alex Smith replaced Shaun Hill against the Texans two weeks ago and threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns in the 24-21 loss. In his game and a half this season, Smith has thrown for 404 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.  Not bad for a guy took a pay cut just to stick around San Francisco.  Where most fans considered him a bust, Smith is taking his second chance to hopefully give them a second opinion.

The Sunday Statistic

The Tennessee Titans have the number two overall ranked rushing offense in the NFL. The San Francisco 49ers have the number two overall ranked rushing defense in the NFL. In a smash mouth game such as this should be, turnovers and field position will become the most important aspect of coming away with a win.
