While Kerry Collins led the team to a league best record last season, this year he has been absolutely hideous. Ranking among the worst in almost every statistical category, and throwing more interceptions in six games then he did all of last year, the front office felt it was time for a phone call. Bud Adams once again forced Jeff Fisher's hand and replaced starter Kerry Collins against his will.
As Mr. Adams is calling on Vince Young to take over the helm, Tennessee Titans fans are calling on their team for a victory. Anxiously awaiting to witness what they were privileged to see 13 of 16 weeks last season, most are open to the idea of a quarterback switch. Statistically speaking Young has won four of his last five starts and is 18-11 as a career starter, so why would there be any controversy to the change?
Truth is most Tennessee fans are ready for the Titans to cut their ties with Young and move toward the future. Problem is, Collins is not the future quarterback solution either. With Young set to count over 14 million against the cap Tennessee must see what exactly they have with their former number three overall NFL draft pick. What better time than now?
This horrendous 0-6 start could be exactly what Young needs to re-spark his drive and flare that flooded the city his rookie season. Although expected to be shaky at first, he should settle in quickly. Mistakes will be made, interceptions will be thrown, but that's something Titans fans have become accustomed to this season. The key will be for fans to get behind Vince because like it or not, he is currently the Titans quarterback and likely to be the starter from here on out.
Bright Spots
Chris Johnson will be looking for a big game as he currently ranks fifth in the league in rushing with 596 yards and averaging 6.3 per carry. Rookie wide receiver and first round draft pick Kenny Britt has been rewarding as he leads the team in receiving with 289 yards while averaging 15.2 per catch although still in search of his first NFL career touchdown. Both should be looking to have big days to help Tennessee put together their first victory on the season.
Back In Action
Courtland Finnegan could be back on the field this Sunday to boost a pass defense that currently ranks dead last in the NFL with 310.7 yards per game. With the Tennessee defense focused on stuffing the NFL's current leader in rushing touchdowns, Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew, and Torry Holt out with an injury, Jacksonville receiver Mike Sims-Walker should be the concentration of the secondary. Last game against the Titans, Sims-Walker torched the defense with seven receptions for 92 yards and two TD's.
