Now the talk will begin as teams will play next weekend and there will be two weeks of build up to the most anticipated Spanish superderby of the last few years.

Barca struggled defensive, but Pedro was able to relieve anxieties as his double propelled the Blaugrana to a 4-2 win against Mallorca.  Madrid in the meantime spent every ounce of energy to hold on after a late Atlético charge to come away with the three point in the Madrid derby.  What's worse for Quique Sánchez Flores' men is that a season that started out with such high expectations now sees them in the relegation zone as well as eliminated from the Champions League.

Another team that is in the doldrums is Racing Santander.  The boys from northern Spain lost to Athletic Bilbao and their coach Juan Carlos Mandiá was sacked.  Santander was supposed to have a great deal of changes this season under Mandiá as he was committed to bring youth to the team and try to take out the old influences like Pedro Munitis.  This formula failed miserably as the team went are winless at El Sardinero and have only won one match so far in the league.   Sporting director Juanjo González will take over on an interim basis.

Sevilla continue to stay at an arm's length from the leaders and refuse to believe the notion that La Liga is a two-horse race.  Their win also does not allow Villarreal to get back on track as they find themselves battling for position on the wrong side of the table.
