Kim Bensing of Heirloom Occasions creates the most wonderful custom invitations for your wedding. But when I say invitations, don't you all think of those standard large (and pretty fun), imposing envelopes that arrive in the mail, sadly, now printed rather than embossed, bidding you to come and witness a wedding?

You're going to have to think a whole lot differently if you're going to work with Kim! While she has some semi-custom work (she'll personalize a standard — for Kim — product), the really fun stuff is her custom work. And before you run away, custom means she'll work with you to help you get something fabulous that you can afford. She'll help you identify what you value and what you intend and then build a coherent and gorgeous package around that.

You have to be willing to think differently about your wedding and your marriage. The Wedding Priestess was so joyous when Kim talked about her new up-and-coming product, the vow book. She builds an invitation around the couple's wedding vows. This is what the Priestess likes: you have to know what you're going to promise one another before you even send out the invitations. Wow! Let's base the wedding ceremony on your marriage! Are you paying attention?

And then, you invite your guests to take their very important place in the your community. This signature piece becomes the basis for the wedding programs and the thank you notes, maybe your stationary, maybe your cake. It can continue to identify your family when you move into different phases in your life: babies, houses, careers… Professionally, she's winning awards for this work, but more importantly, she's winning the hearts of each couple's community.

You need to go to her site and look at her work. It's beautiful, exquisite doesn't seem too large a word! It's green, for goodness' sakes. And she's local: Doylestown. You can work with her from anywhere, but isn't it grand to say, oh, yes, I used all local artisans for my wedding! Kim Bensing and Heirloom Occasions is just one more bit of proof that Philadelphia has everything you need.

One more way to move from "I do" to happily and healthily ever after.

(And remember, I need your help to keep this column current, sassy and useful. Write to me with Philadelphia wedding venues, products and services to explore. Put The Wedding Priestess in the subject line.)
