December 15:  Oy! The days are speeding by and whether you're celebrating the Solstice, Hannukah, Christmas, Kwanza or Festivus, shopping days are waning.

If you haven't done your shopping, why not light your three Advent Candles, cozy up and make your lists together. Agree. Then, together, go on line, and buy them. Rather shop locally? Great. Make your lists, and make a date to meet after work tomorrow. Your list needs to say where you'll buy what you need. Plot a strategy. Are you going to go together, or split up? Plot a route. How do you start at one end of the street and wind up at the other end at your favorite cantina?

But wait!!! While you're still home, before you get on the computer, look at the list and at what you've planned to buy. Did you have a budget when you started this project? No? Then go back and think again. You're getting married. How you shop for holiday presents is indicative of how you're going to shop for your wedding. Weddings are expensive, so the budget matters. The budget matters too because that’s what you've agreed to. The budget probably matters for holiday presents because you're getting married this year. Every little penny matters; and pennies become dollars become twenties pretty quickly!

If you can talk easily and constructively about money (and sex!) you can talk about anything. And if you have a hard time talking about money, but you got there anyway, then so much the better. You had the harder route! As you're working this stuff out, remember: you're allies! Take the challenge. Figure out how to get wonderfully meaningful gifts for everyone on your list and spend under your budget. You can do it. You fell in love with the perfect partner right? So you can do anything!

One more way to move from "I do" to happily and healthily ever after.

(And remember, I need your help to keep this column current and interesting. Write to me with ideas to explore. Put The Wedding Priestess in the subject line.)
