And now, winner of yet another award. Is there anything the man can't do? I'll be honest. I sobbed my way through the entirety of Milk, Penn's most recent accomplishment and boy, was it ever such. I've always respected Penn for his ability to literally become the characters he plays, but his role as Harvey Milk really took my breath away. Yes, I sob through the majority of movies (I even cried at the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, but honestly, who didn't tear when Bridget had dreams about her mother leaving her in the night? Don't lie to me. I know you teared too, you just didn't do it as loudly as I did).
You can imagine my heart swelled when I heard Penn had been lauded for his performance and that it practically burst open into dozens of tiny doodled flowers and smily faces when I heard he'd secured an award for best actor at the New York Film Critic Awards dinner last night. How happy does this picture of he and Josh Brolin (who also snagged an award, for best supporting actor in the film) make you? I'm always more proud of actors who take risk with roles and portray characters that aren't just made up people but characters who have really done things for society. Harvey Milk was, at the very least, a hero to many, and I can't overstate how glad I was that Sean Penn took on the challenge and pretty much opened up a can of whoop ass on the role. The man can do no wrong.
