Rudy is six years old and belongs to a loving family composed of a dedicated husband and wife with a three year old son and one more in the oven.  Rudy is also on the verge of being a victim of a story we've all heard before.  Recently Rudy has stopped eating and become increasingly lethargic.  When it became evident that this was more than him just being grumpy, Rudy's owner's took him too the vet.  A very good vet.  After an examination they were told that Rudy was suffering from either an inflamed salivary gland or a potentially malignant tumor.  The examination cost them five hundred dollars.

Now that's not where the problem lies.  The problem is that the vet also told them that they couldn't be sure until they ran a battery of tests.  Tests that will cost them an extra $1500.  So $500 for the initial visit, $1500 for the next visit and tests, and then who knows how much for the procedure, if one is required.  Add in prescriptions and follow-ups and who knows how high the bill will go.!

No one thinks that the vet is gouging these people but in this day and age, with the economy the way it is, it's a huge price for a small, middle-income family to pay.  They love their dog and desperately want to keep their family intact, dogs and all.

So what I'm asking of you, the adoring public, is any assistance you can muster.  Not a handout but any sort of advice you may have.  Do you know of a vet who does pro bono work?  Or one who will work out a payment plan?  Or maybe even work on the barter system?

Right now they have antibiotics and love and they're hoping that it's enough.  No one wants to lose a pet.  I had to put down my best friend of 15 years this past September and anyone who knows me knows what it cost me emotionally.  I don't want anyone else to pay that price if I can possibly help it.

Thank you all in advance for your prayers, thoughts and any advice that comes this way.
