In these difficult economic times, one good thing has emerged: exciting restaurants are offering specials and themed dining nights to entice loyal customers and attract new patrons. And it's working. From oysters and burgers to seafood potpie, here are my suggestions for where you should be eating throughout the week.
Monday
While it was a difficult choice (with Meatball Monday’s at A-16 the first runner-up), Goat Hill Pizza offers an all-you-can-eat pizza night every Monday. Due to increased demands and long lines, they’ve decided to begin serving at 4 p.m. If you haven’t strolled down quaint 18th St. in awhile, Mondays at Goat Hill are your current excuse.
Tuesday
Just in time for cooler fall evenings, The Mission Beach Café has recently made some additions to their "Pot Pie Tuesdays" menu. Short rib and seafood pot-pies will now join previous favorites, rabbit and vegetable. Could there be a better way to slide into hump-day?
Wednesday
Not necessarily specific to Wednesdays, Bar Crudo is my pick for leaving the office early for a much needed mid-week break. They are now serving $1 oysters and $3 Sierra Nevada from 5pm-6:30pm (Mon.-Thurs). They’ll also offer specially priced glasses of wine ($5) and discounted signature dishes.
Thursday
Ah, the $16 burger. Of course it’s in Marin-- but it’s worth the trip. The burger at Marche aux Fleurs is made with a half-pound of Prather Ranch beef served on a housemade roll and topped with Bravo cheddar cheese, house-smoked bacon, and grilled onions. The small eatery uses local ingredients and free-range meats, but only offers this special burger once a week. Nice wines, sweet date spot, and you could say you tried the infamous $16 burger.
Friday
For those folks who like to eat a bit early and get their Friday night started, there’s La Provence. This neighborhood French restaurant serves consistently delicious food and on Fridays (and Saturdays), they’re offering a 3-course $29 Prix Fixe menu if you dine before 6:30 pm. A tip: eat a little early and then linger for some vino and great atmosphere.
The Weekend
While Luna Park’s bottomless mimosas or Nettie's Crab Shack’s Sunday crab feed are both equally appealing, Farmer Brown’s brunch has my vote for weekend dining. They do an all-you-can-eat brunch every Saturday and Sunday for only $15. It includes eggs, bacon, fresh biscuits, pancakes, friend chicken, and other daily specials. With live music and strong bloody mary’s, there’s no better way to usher in the weekend.
