Walkscore's map of Portland. Green = Walker's Paradise

If you've ever wondered what the most walkable neighborhoods of a city are, check out Walkscore.com, a website that maps out cities, neighborhoods and even specific addresses and rates them on 'walkability' out of 100 points.

Portland's central neighborhoods are rated a "Walker's Paradise" with a score between 90 and 99. Many NW and SW addresses, including my own, even scored 100.

Walkscore is a great resource when visiting Portland, or any other city for that matter. You can quickly scan the city map and see some of the best parts of a city to explore. It's an even better resource when you're thinking about moving and you want to take advantage of the health, convenience and environmental benefits of a walkable neighborhood.

As you search out your address and look up other cities, keep in mind the site's disclaimer: "Walk Score measures how easy it is to live a car-lite lifestyle—not how pretty the area is for walking." But with cities like Los Angeles rated above Portland, the algorithm might still benefit from some tweaking :)
