Lake Wallace is a Bayou Bartholomew oxbow that is located in Drew and Chicot counties in Southeast Arkansas. Lake Wallace is 362 acres of cypress trees and stumps with line stretching largemouths hiding in the shadows. The lake is mostly idle only, unless an angler knows the few unmarked lanes around the lake. There are good numbers of bream, crappie, and catfish to go along the bass population.
Bass are probably the most popular fish in the lake with several tournaments held on the lake during the year. Bass can be caught around the banks or in the middle with all types of lures including jigs, worms, topwaters, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits. During the spring it is not uncommon to catch seven to nine pound bass from Lake Wallace. One of the great things about the lake is the lack of fishing pressure. With Lake Monticello only thirty minutes away, Wallace is often overlooked in favor of the more popular big bass capital of Arkansas. Lake Wallace is located a few miles outside of Dermott on highway 165. There is a nice one lane launch ramp and paved parking lot. Don’t let the lack of popularity fool you. Wallace has some of the biggest northern strain bass in the Natural State! Next time you are looking for a different kind of place to take a weekend fishing trip, check out Lake Wallace.
