How many of you have seen Justin Guarini (www.justinguarini.com) host shows on the TV Guide network? Truthfully, I know he can sing, but I was never a fan of his in that genre - different tastes (read: Lenny Kravitz). Nor am I a fan of any other host on the TV Guide network (www.tvguide.com). I understand that TV Guide wants to have programming shown above the TV listings to keep people interested, but I will be forever grateful to them if they never, ever air that “Trapped in TV Guide” show, or that one where the guy goes around and allegedly hypnotizes people he allegedly meets on the street. Entertainment is the goal, right TV Guide??? You're missing the goal with those two shows.
Back to Justin. He is particularly fabulous performing this job on the TV Guide Network. He is a natural. He is smart, smooth, nonthreatening, nonjudgmental, genuinely interested in his guests, and he looks like a fish in water – totally in his element. I love watching him. I don't know how he feels about his job, but I hope he loves it.
How do you feel about your job? I know it's a little strange right now, because of the economic position of the country. We sometimes feel that we don't have the luxury of dancing to the beat of our own drummer. But God is not restricted by the economic position of the country.
God has given you a gift. He gave one to Justin Guarini, He gave one to Meryl Streep, He gave one to Lenny Kravitz and He gave one to you. When you were developing in your mother's womb, God already knew you. He knew what you would be good at and He put the desire in your heart to pursue that very thing. You might be thinking that there are so many reasons stopping you from going forward with your dream, and maybe one of those reasons is that you don't even know what your dream is exactly.
I have a great way of finding out what your dream is. Get a pen and a piece of paper and answer these questions: What do you love to do and what are you good at? What would you be doing if you were not hindered by the lack of money? What if you had all the right clothes, lived in the right area, had the perfect education, the perfect transportation, no family restrictions, nothing at all to stand in your way. What would you be doing? Whatever you answered, that is your dream.
That dream is the dream God gave to you, and that is what you should pursue. I know it is scary to go after your dream. After all, what if you fail? A failed dream takes the air out of your sails and has the potential to depress you. But if you fail, you try again, and again and again until you are successful. I wonder how many times some of the most famous and talented performers were told no before they were told yes.
Remember, there will always be people in your life who will tell you that you cannot do it. That's when you look to God and ask Him to give you the strength to remain faithful and look toward the mark. As long as you remain obedient to Him, you will be successful.
God is truly generous with His blessings and has surely given you a gift. The Lord wants you to be happy, and one quick way to finding happiness in your work is to find out what God wants you to do and then go do it. You don't have to be a preacher to work for God. You can be a custodian at a school and be working for God, because as long as you remain faithful, be true to your Christian values, treat everyone you meet with love and respect, and be prepared to give an explanation of why you are filled with joy, you will be doing the work that God put you here to do, and you will be filled with joy. May God bless you.
