Do you hate them because they're beautiful? Would it help if you knew they were news anchors on Fox Channel 31?
Westword's Michael Roberts didn't care much for the decision to portray their TV personalities as hotties. In a post titled "Channel 31 stars go from anchors to skank-ers", Roberts makes the case that the journalists are a) whoring themselves and b) their producer made a mistake of rebranding sister station Channel 2 "the Duece", a slang term for a two-pound turd.
And they aren't the only ones who fear the cover may undermine the credibility these ladies will need to pull off segments on cooking and teaching Mandarin to kids on their 4 p.m. lifestyle show, Everyday: the Denver Egoist, Roberts, and Denver PR also got in on the act. Oh, and Michael Roberts.
On their show, the duo admitted the shoot might, unlike the news portion of the show, be controversial.
Jumping to their defense, and alone, was the Denver Post.
For our part, we had long ago lost any illusions that beauty is, perhaps not the only qualification, but one of the major qualifications for the job. I'm not saying they don't look at your journalism chops. I'm just not sure they bother until they've seen your publicity photo.
