Washington Heights and Inwood were celebrating into the middle of the night (or early this morning). From fireworks to music, residents here loudly cheered on the New York Yankees’ 27th World Series Championship.

This was a sweet victory particularly for our community members that hail from the beautiful country of the Dominican Republic, since not only were the Yankees going up again their long-time, Dominican-bred nemesis Pedro Martinez, but several of the team’s key players also proudly call the beautiful country their birthplace. Although Alex Rodriguez is the most commonly associated with the country, there’s also Robinson Cano, Melky Cabrera, Damaso Marte and Edwar Ramírez. The list is obviously too long to list here, not considering the ones that have been involved throughout the team's history. It is obvious the strong relationship that the franchise and Major Leagues Baseball (MLB) have developed with the country, which many in Washington Heights and Inwood honored last night.

Congratulations to the New York Yankees for a well-deserved win!
