Ahhhh, there’s a chill in the air, if you can call 50º a chill, and the leaves on the trees have begun to fall.  Yes, it’s fall in Charleston and it’s time to celebrate. With the kids out of school next week, I’m looking for things to do beginning Tuesday when they all get out and I’m stuck trying to keep them entertained while cooking, cleaning, setting the table(s) and OMG! Someone call my therapist. I’m having a panic attack!!!

Ok, Now, where was I? Oh, yes. Keeping the kids entertained without having them kill themselves or each other.

The Charleston County Library is open Wednesday

Take some stress off your holiday and let your kids decorate. Kids love helping and feeling part of something big. Go to Michael’s or any other craft store and pick out some feathers, popsicle sticks, stickers, construction paper and clay. Big ones can help little ones with cutting, writing names and gluing. It’s a great day for activities that can keep them out of your hair while you begin your cooking. Kaboose.com has some great ideas.

On Wednesday, keep them out of the kitchen and go to the library for books and movies. Build a fort after getting back and bring in stuffed animals, flashlights and snacks. You’ll be so distracted by the giggling that you may want to join in the fun yourself!  It won’t cost a thing, unless you have some overdue fines.

Light Display at Festival of Lights

Thursday, get out the wiggles with the 5K Turkey Day Run and Gobble Wobble. Have your spouse, swipe the kids out of the house and head downtown to run off some jitters. The run begins at 9 a.m. and there’s even a children’s run with different age categories. Go to http://www.turkeydayrun.com for more information and to register.

After the turkey has been eaten and everyone’s sitting around staring at the dishes, get the kids out the house one more time and head to the Holiday Festival of Lights. With more than 600 light displays, a train ride, sand sculpture and a carous you’re bound to  find something fun for the entire family. You’ve spent enough time in the kitchen. leave the dishes in the sink and get out there and enjoy yourself to. After all, Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year!
