Guillermo del Toro, the director of the upcoming Hobbit movies, confirmed this afternoon (November 9, 2009) that he will have a small cameo role in the movies. He will play some kind of "background" monster and will "die quickly."
Yesterday a member of TheOneRing.net Forum posted information about a video posted on YouTube. The video includes an interview with del Toro apparently for German television. The conversation was mostly about Die Saat (the title of del Toro's book, The Strain, in German), but includes a few tidbits about The Hobbit. You can hear the director's answers in English which is dubbed over in German.
Guillermo del Toro posts to TheOneRing.net's Forum from time to time. This is what he had to say this afternoon in response to the report about the video.
I had a hand on the design of the creature and I will personally sculpt the appliances that will be applied on my face and hands. I used to sculpt the creatures for NECROPIA (my FX company) and I miss it a bit.
I will have a line or two and die quickly.
Peter Jackson is producing the two movies based on JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit, the prequel to The Lord of the Rings. Filming is scheduled to begin next spring, with releases in December of 2011 and 2012.
