Have you ever wondered, where in the world you can go to connect with the people you need the most in the fashion industry? Modelmayhem.com is a booming social network full of creative energy bursting though the computer. You will be astounded at how easy it is to work with some of your favorites. Don’t get me wrong, members are very cautious and can tell if you are a serious professional. Are you a die-hard fashion freelancer that doesn’t want to work for anyone but yourself? This site may be just what you need. Gigs are endless. Major Casting Agents continuously cast from the site. Many Models, Photographers, Fashion Designers, Wardrobe Stylists, Hair Stylists, and Makeup Artists connect with one another regularly.

Have you ever opened your favorite magazine and felt a rush of astonishment or exhilaration from a photographic image? I can tell you from experience that it took a team of people working together to make that happen! Many of whom you can contact directly on Model Mayhem. The atmosphere is friendly and encouraging to not only veterans, but newcomers as well. If you are open-minded, there are many professionals eager to give constructive criticism and support to fellow “fashionites” (that’s my new word, watch it spread like locusts in Egypt!)

Makeup Artist can make a pretty penny working photo shoots and fashion shows. Models, of course get paid by participating in car shows, videos, commercials, fashion shows, photo shoots, you name it. Unfortunately Fashion Designers and Wardrobe Stylist get the raw end of the deal. Although clothes are necessary for most of these things, for some reason my fellow “fashionites” don’t seem to understand that our time is just as important as theirs. Of course a person can go to the store and buy an item off the rack, but how many others have same item or one similar. When manufacturers mass produce, they mass produce. It is easier to cherish your Stylist or Designer before fame knocks at their door than to fake it later. Remember that!

I still believe that the site is a great way to network and gain experience in your chosen field.  I frequent the site and now my portfolio is full of award-winning photographers, celebrity makeup artists, international models and those featured in well-known magazines. Just know when your portfolio is full of enough free stuff so that you can afford to be a die-hard freelancer and start making money.

For more info: Tosign up, go to modelmayhem.com. You may view my portfolio at modelmayhem.com/sheshae.  If you have any other questions about other ways to connect with the fashion "in crowd", just ask. Happy freelancing!
