Dropping my dogs off at the kennel is a guilt-inducing activity. For all I know they’d rather hang out at the kennel with their new friends than join us on a family trip. But I always feel bad leaving them and heading to the airport.

Fortunately, I’ve discovered The Doglofts, a kennel that uses a Web cam system. This allows me to assuage my guilt. It also allows me to log on whether I am in Pittsburgh or Paris and see how Buddy and Annie are doing.

My mother-in-law likes to know when the dogs are at the kennel because she can tune in from out-of-state and see her grand-doggies.

The Doglofts in Oak Lawn (and Uptown) is where we used to board the dogs, but they’ve re-organized and added a Flower Mound location that’s more convenient for us. We can drop the dogs off on the way to the airport without driving into downtown Dallas. The people there are nice, so you don't really feel you're leaving your pets at the doggie equivalent of the Bates Motel.

Here's a tip - If you put a colored bandana on your dog’s neck, it will help you identify him or her on the small-ish Web cam screen. You’re also allowed to pack a few things for your dog’s entertainment. A favorite chew toy or pillow might make your pet’s stay at the kennel more enjoyable.

Whether you use a Web-friendly kennel or another kennel -- do you board your dog regularly? What tips can you offer readers to make the process go smoother?
