Almost all major airlines (except Southwest) allow pets to travel in-cabin or in the cargo area, depending on their size. Of course, pets should be at least 8-weeks old and must be weaned.
The USDA is the agency that oversees pet transport and you can peruse their publication Traveling By Air With Your Pet for some handy information. They also provide specific guidelines about the type of kennel you will need for airline travel.
Below you will find a list of links that lead to rules and regulations for specific airlines. Rules, fares and fees differ widely depending on the time of year, size of your pet and other criteria.
If you don't see your airline listed here, call their toll free customer service number and inquire about their specific policies and pricing.
