While not specifically Halloween-related, the first two featured events this week are still well worth checking out: there's a Left Hand/Terrapin beer dinner at Monk's, and a fresh hop draft promo at Capone's on Thursday evening. Both Left Hand and Terrapin will be sending their brewers, and Capone's will be featuring a wide variety of freshly-hopped beers from near and far - Victory, the General Lafayette and Manayunk are among the local brewers, with some tasty goodness from further afield, courtesy of Founders and Southern Tier, to name just a few.
Also on Thursday, the real Halloween fun begins with some grownup Halloween candy at The Institute. They are hosting an evening of homemade truffles, paired with Duck-Rabbit's Brown Ale as well as their Wee Heavy. Duck-Rabbit is not kidding when they call their brewery 'the dark beer specialist' - everything from their (darkish) amber to their barleywine has been outstanding.
On Friday, it's Mischief Night with the Ladies at (appropriately enough) Devil's Den - join Megan from Ommegang, Wendy from Dogfish Head and Sly Fox's own Suzanne for an evening of interesting beer and discussion, starting at 8 pm - if you're not already a member of In Pursuit of Ale (and you self-identify as female), they will no doubt persuade you to get involved - the group is looking forward to a Halloween bash at Yards Brewing on Saturday night - you've missed the RSVP cutoff, but if you hit this event, you may be able to talk your way in.
Drinking the Dead takes over at the Grey Lodge on Friday night; naturally, Rogue's Dead Guy Ale will be on tap, as will its more potent sibling, Double Dead Guy. Prizes for costumes are also up for grabs, from 6 pm onward. They Grey Lodge is also staying in the spirit for Halloween proper, with Dogfish Head's Punkin Ale available in the evening.
If you're looking for some good food on Halloween and are not averse to going in costume, you can get a discount on your pizza flatbread at Earth Bread + Brewery on Saturday evening - no, you won't get a discount on the beer, but it's still a significant savings on your meal - and it's always worth the trip.
Perhaps the most deserving place to drink on Halloween night is the supposedly-quite-haunted General Lafayette (especially given their recent improvements). Their 13th annual Halloween Costume Ball kicks off at 9 pm - there are cash prizes on offer in addition to their always-wonderful beer. You never know when the Marquis himself may step up to the bar.
