The University of Georgia has been on an absolute recruiting tear for the past couple of months and if things keep going the way they have been, they'll have their 2010 Signing Day Class shored up by early September. They added to that recruiting momentum today by picking up one of the top Defensive Tackles recruits in the nation in Garrison Smith.
Smith had a slew of offers from all across the nation including the likes of Florida, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Florida State as well as many other powerhouses and his brother formerly played for UGA's rival in Georgia Tech. However, in the end, the Scout.com rated 5-star prospect chose the Dawgs over Florida in his final two.
Smith held his announcement on Sunday at 7:00 PM at Shout in Midtown Atlanta. Reports were that he had a great crowd of Dawg fans on hand, who got word that Smith might be choosing the Red & Black after Smith attended "Dawg Night," an annual camp for prospects hosted by the University of Georgia.
The DT did have some dramatics with his announcement though. Known for being a great young man of faith, but also humor, Smith showed up wearing a GT shirt, with a Florida shirt underneath that, and finally a UGA shirt underneath it all.
There are rumors still circulating that there are some silent UGA commitments still out there, so keep checking back in the coming weeks to see if any new news is posted.
