UGA went into Auburn on Saturday and pulled out one of the ugliest wins the Dawg Nation has seen this year, but the end-all-be-all is a win is a win and I think the Dawgs were happy enough to finish this year's tough SEC schedule and extend their winning streak against the Tigers to three straight.
The win was yet another in UGA's long list of games where offensive production didn't lead to points on the scoreboard. It was also another chapter in the "how many penalties can they get and still win" novel the Dawgs have been writing over the course of this season.
Here's a look at the Good, Bad and Ugly of Saturday's performance:
The Good:
1) Matt Stafford -- No turnovers have to be a good sign for this offense, as their next opponent is a very opportunistic Georgia Tech defense.
2) WRs -- Both A.J. Green and Mohammed Massaquoi provided plenty of tough catches when it mattered the most.
3) Knowshon Moreno -- I think 189 yards on the ground and through the air says this guy is definitely playing at a different level right now.
4) Rennie Curran -- Always a bright spot on the defense, Curran's time in Athens may finish with him being one of the most productive LBs UGA has ever had.
The Bad:
1) Penalties -- Nine penalties for 95 yards is a tough stat to swallow, even if the team still got a win at the end of the day.
2) Second Level Defense -- The defensive line did a fine job of getting adequate pressure on Kodi Burns, but when a runner (whether it be Burns, Tate or Fannin) broke into the second level of the defense, many of UGA's players were out of position or took very poor angles in pursuit.
3) Production vs. Points -- Getting nearly 400 yards of offense on one of the better defenses in the nation should have translated into the Dawgs scoring more than 17 on the Tigers.
The Ugly:
1) Tackling -- The Dawgs did a VERY poor job of wrapping up runners and receivers on Saturday. If that trend continues, the Georgia Tech game will be a big headache for Dawg fans.
2) Special Teams -- From a blocked field goal to poor play from the punt returners, the special teams for UGA did not look solid. Sometimes their kickoff coverage is absolutely maddening.
UGA's off week comes at a great time for the Dawgs as they try to heal up and learn to stop a very disciplined and efficient Georgia Tech offense. The Dawgs have a lot of work to do to get ready for what could possibly be one of the best games of the year between both teams.
