A DNA test has confirmed that former Presidential candidate and Senator John Edwards is the father of former campaign aide Rielle Hunter's baby.
According to The National Enquirer, the test was requested after Hunter asked for financial help from Edwards for her 18-month-old daughter, Frances Quinn.
Rielle Hunter agreed to testify to a federal grand jury investigating John Edwards for allegedly paying "hush" money out of his campaign coffers to Hunter and another former aide who claimed paternity of the child, Andrew Young.
Apparently Young, who was living it up in a paid-for mansion with Hunter, turned on Edwards. John Edwards adamantly denied during his confessional interview with ABC News last summer that he fathered the child with Hunter, saying he welcomed a paternity test. At the time, Hunter would not allow it, and Young, who claimed to be the baby's father anyway, had dropped off the face of the Earth.
Problem solved!
That is, until the feds got involved. Investigators are looking into why Edwards' political campaign paid Hunter's production company $100,000 for "work" in 2006, then paid her another $14,086 on April 1, 2007, for only four brief web videos.
While Edwards has confirmed the financial investigation, the U.S. attorney's office declined to comment.
