Cristian de la Fuente and Angelica Vale, two celebrities who are a part of the Cash for Clunkers campaign, say that they think the 'bailout' will largely benefit the Hispanic-American community whose livelihoods are tied into the auto industry.
“This government subsidy will make it easy for people to get a new car that is a lot less expensive to operate and maintain because of the great gas mileage and lack of repair costs,” said de la Fuente, who appeared on Dancing With The Stars.
“The people that have these cars that use a lot of gas are Latinos, and I can get this message across to them,” de la Fuente told TV Guide. “Many times, we don’t have to the money to buy a new car. If they can get some cash out of it for a newer and better car, it’s a great opportunity.”
Vale added: “This program helps hardworking people who need the financial support. Finally consumers are getting a bailout.”
Since a large number of the clunkers on the road are owned by minorities and immigrants, these communities will benefit significantly from this legislation. “We have passionately supported Cash For Clunkers because of its positive impact on the environment, economy, consumers and its benefits for hundreds of Hispanic American communities whose livelihoods are tied to the auto industry,” said Alfonso Aguilar, the former Chief of the U.S. Office of Citizenship. “This legislation will create thousands of new jobs for all Americans who work in the many businesses that serve the automotive industry.”
The program aims to reward those who turn in their gas-guzzling "clunkers" with up to $4500 as an incentive to buy a new, more fuel efficient vehicle. But be ware of online scams.
