Approximately fifty-five breeders and vendors from Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, and Arkansas will be on hand at the Ponchatoula Bird Fair to answer your questions and to educate you about birds. Fair prizes include vendor tote bags chock full of goodies and coupons, an acrylic travel cage donated by Folse's Feather Farms, and a wildlife safari donated by Global Wildlife Center in Robert. LA.
At the bird fair you can expect to interact with and buy a variety of birds. Hands-on handling, within reason of course, is allowed by most breeders because it is important for the bird to match well with his or her prospective owner.

Tracey Loup, organizer of the bird fair, said in an interview, “The bird picks you!” For example, one of five cockatiels will bond with a person. Since a cockatiel lives for fifteen years, and a cockatoo lives for fifty years, bonding is a very important consideration when purchasing a bird.
At the fair visitors can visit the tables of the vendors and breeders. “Here the birds will be in or on cages and on perches. If you know what type of bird you are looking for, you will find a breeder that has the type of bird you want,” states Tracey. Prices for birds range from $15 to $2,000.
Mrs. Loup’s goal is for the prospective bird owner to understand what the birds need and to learn how to successfully raise a bird. She says she learned this most important lesson when she was a first time bird owner.
