“The Wrestler” just keeps piling up awards.
On Wednesday in London, England, “The Wrestler” picked up Film of the year at the 29th Annual Critics' Circle Film Awards. Mickey Rourke also received the award for Actor of the Year.
The London Critics' Circle, the film section of the Critics' Circle, has more than 100 members who write for newspapers and magazines published all across the United Kingdom.
The awards were held at London's Grosvenor House Hotel as a fund-raiser for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
Those two awards add the growing mantle of accolades that Darren Aronofsky’s film has compiled which includes:
- Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival (film’s premiere)
- Winner, Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama (Mickey Rourke)
- Winner, Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song - Motion Picture ("The Wrestler" written and performed by Bruce Springsteen)
- Nominated, Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture (Marisa Tomei)
- Nominated, Screen Actor's Guild Award for Outstanding Male Actor in a Leading Role (Mickey Rourke)
Other nominations for the film that have yet to be decided include:
- Academy Award for Best Actor (Mickey Rourke)
- Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress (Marisa Tomei)
- BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Mickey Rourke)
- BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Marisa Tomei)
