Mickey Rourke continues to pick up awards and accolades for his work on ‘The Wrestler.”
On Sunday night the British Academy of Film and Television Arts presented the 62nd annual British Academy Film Awards, and Rourke was once again honored with a Best Actor statue for his role as Randy “The Ram” Robinson.
Rourke continued to cause Hollywood elite to blush thanks to his uncensored and “uncouth” acceptance speech where he thanked everyone including his agent, the industry for giving him another chance and of course his dogs.
Footage of Rourke’ acceptance speech that had his peers in a combination of laughter, shock and joy:
This is Rourke’s third individual Best Actor award win for his role “The Wrestler,” after already picking up wins at the Golden Globes and the London Film Critics Circle and now all eyes point to the Academy Awards in two weeks where Rourke once again is nominated in the Best Actor category.
Incidentally last year’s Best Actor winner at both the BAFTA and Golden Globes, Daniel Day-Lewis, also went on to win the Oscar for Best Actor. Hopefully that will be a good omen for 2009’s comeback story of the year.
Rourke’s co-star Marisa Tomei was also nominated at the BAFTA in the Best Supporting Actress category.
