Welcome to the first Royal Rumble live update.

The pay per view opened with Matt Hardy challenging “All-American American” Jack Swagger for the ECW Championship. To give the Title match more gravitas both men are introduced while standing in the ring while the ref stood center ring holding the Championship. It made it look like a legit fight announcement.

The match started out back and forth with neither man gaining a clear advantage. A few minutes in, Swagger took control of Hardy’s left arm and that became the story of the match, as Swagger continued to injure Hardy’s left arm. Swagger ended up winning the match when he pinned Hardy with the “Red, White and Blue Thunder Bomb.” Swagger remains undefeated in his WWE career.

After the match, the cameras and announcers focused on Hardy’s recent string of bad luck and losses.
