Last night at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards, Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler” came away quite successfully.
Bruce Springsteen won Best Original Song – Motion Picture for his original song “The Wrestler.” Springsteen is a long-time friend of Mickey Rourke and wrote the song as a favor to his friend.
Rourke himself had a big night as he picked up Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for his work in the titular role. The win was especially emotional for Rourke, as he is making the comeback story of a lifetime with this movie, and this award was nice recognition for his hard work.
Many other Hollywood stars who were interviewed after the awards ceremony were quick to praise Rourke for his win and his comeback. It really seemed to be the feel-good story of the night.
Usually the Golden Globes are a good indicator of who will get recognition at the upcoming Academy Awards, so here’s hoping “The Wrestler” continues to get the recognition it deserves.
It should be noted that Marisa Tomei was also nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture.
