Sarah Palin

TNA Wrestling (which stands for Total Non-stop Action) is the North America’s second largest professional wrestling organization. They have been in business for about six and a half years and despite the massive growth they have made in that amount of time, they are still a distant number two to the global juggernaut that is World Wrestling Entertainment. They are still successful as they present a month pay per view broadcast, have a two-hour television show every Thursday night on SpikeTV and have a national touring schedule.

In an effort to gain new viewers and get the company mainstream exposure, they have invited former Republican Vice Presidential Candidate and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to attend their December 7 pay per view broadcast called “Final Resolution.” (Get it? It’s in December so it’s the last chance to make good on all those resolutions from the previous year.) The company wants to personally fly Palin and her husband Todd down to Orlando for the event, present Palin with $50,000 check to her favorite charity and make her an “honorary TNA Knockout.” “Knockout” is the term they use to describe their female performers.

A pair of busty blondes named Angelina Love and Velvet Sky, who call themselves “The Beautiful People,” played out the invitation on television. The girls, who play the definition of valley girl airhead to perfection, invited Palin to join their group. They were impressed with her $150,000 shopping spree and her sense of style. For a better look at “The Beautiful People” take a look at this YouTube video of their entrance to the ring.

Personally I think this is just another stunt in a long line of them orchestrated by TNA. Since their inception they have desperately tried to gain any foothold or mainstream exposure they can. Last year they even signed controversial pro football player Adam “Pacman” Jones to a contract and gave him their World Tag Team Championship. That turned out to be an unmitigated disaster, and I hoped the company would learn from their past mistakes, but apparently not. They desperately try to emulate the much larger WWE when it reality they should be presenting themselves as an alternative.

I’ll bet you my life savings (which isn’t much) that Palin won’t accept the invitation or even acknowledge it. The company will still go through with a big presentation in the middle of the ring during their pay per view, but ultimately it will be a waste of time and energy.
