WARNING
If you get something for your garden called, "Cocoa Mulch" it can be deadly to your buddies. It's sold at some Home Depot stores.
I would advise that you check any mulch you now have or intend to use, even if it doesn't go by that name.
The mulch contains theobromine, an ingredient from cocoa shell beans that can be lethal to pets. It's what goes into all chocolate products. It smells like chocolate, so dogs are attracted to it and gobble it up. They develop Methylxanthine Toxicosis, indicated by vomiting and severe convulsions, and they die within a day of ingesting it.
This alert checks out to be true according to SNOPES and is confirmed by the ASPCA.
If you're bedding down your gardens for winter, don't use this product, and be aware of what your landscaper is using.
