Singer Kid Cudi is making the leap from singing to acting just as many other artists have before, and he landed on HBO's latest half hour comedy entitled 'How To Make It In America' which premieres Sunday, February 14th. The show is produced by HBO Entertainment; executive producers, Stephen Levinson, Rob Weiss, Ian Edelman, Julian Farino, Jada Miranda and Mark Wahlberg who also produces 'Entourage'.
HBO along side We Can't Stop Thinking creative director Nicholas Scimeca is hosting a private screening party here in Chicago at The Violet Hour. The RSVP has since been closed but those planning to attend should show up early because more people were put on the list than are going to be let inside. Free food and drinks plus the attendee's get an advance screening of 'How To Make It In America' which has generated much buzz due to singer Kid Cudi's starring role.
'How To Make It In America' has been called the east coast 'Entourage', but the only similarities between those two shows is the channel, producers and time length. The show is based in Brooklyn which follows two friends, Ben Epstein (Greenberg) and Cam Calderon (Rasuk) just trying to have the America dream, even if they do not know what that is yet. Cudi portrays their well-connected friend Domingo who loves to party. The main cast is rounded out by Cam's cousin Rene (Guzman) who might be the most recognizable actor in the entire series from such films as "Yes Man" and "Waiting".
For those of you that are not attending the free screening at The Violet Hour, and cannot wait until Sunday for the premiere HBO has just posted the pilot episode in it's entirety which can be streamed below. Kid Cudi's starring role can be mashed together in less than five minutes of screen time which includes only six to eight complete sentiences. With such hype around Cudi's first acting moment's I would have liked to see more acting from the twenty-six year old, and it left me feeling slightly disappointed.
Tour dates in Australia are set throughout the end of February for Cudi and no other concerts have been planned for the rest of 2010. Cudi's debut studio full length album Man on the Moon: The End of Day was released last year and the young singer received three Grammy nominations for his work. The hype of his music career is still on the rise which makes his timing to jump into acting a little off, but when an opportunity like this came along, he probably could not pass it up.
Stream the entire pilot episode below and the comment section is open to your thoughts on HBO's latest half-hour comedy.
