Contrary to the misleading band name Miike Snow is not a one man fronted band but three men who have all made their mark in the music scene long before Miike Snow came along and I recently got to chat with singer Andrew Wyatt.
The masterminds behind Miike Snow are Christian Karlsson, Pontus Winnberg, and Andrew Wyatt who all met back in 2000 when working on another artists album. Following different musical paths Karlsson and Winnberg did writing and producing stints with Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Britney Spears which won them a Grammy for Best Dance Recording with her song "Toxic". Wyatt has been a member in Black Beetle (with Joan Wasser) and The A.M. (with Michael Tighe). In 2007 all three men joined together again to form Miike Snow and it has been an amazing ride as a band since then for these men.
2009 was a huge year for Miike Snow with their self-titled debut album being released back in May, a US headlining tour with not one but two sold out Chicago dates plus slots on Lollapalooza and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Oh and did I mention that a slew of artists such as Peter Bjorn and John, Tiga, Crookers, Mark Ronson have remixed their songs, and that is just naming a few.
Listen to Peter Bjorn and John's remix of "Animal" here:
Not only are other artists remixing Miike Snow songs, but Miike Snow has returned the favor and remixed other artists songs as well. When explaining what entices them to remix a song Andrew had this to say, "Well I think it would have to be someone that we like and feel we can do a good job to contribute something to the remix. I think everyone we have remixed so far which is just 3 things, Peter Bjorn and John, Passion Pit and Vampire Weekend and in all three of those situations we brought something interesting to whatever song we were doing. I think we have to share some kind of spiritual connection between what we are doing and what we choose to remix and I think that is the case for all three of those". Andrew also told me that they have completed a remix for Kings of Leon's "Crawl" which is waiting for release.

Next year is already looking promising for Miike Snow with a headlining tour set for the last half of March which is going to be planned around their confirmed Coachella date, in which none of the line-up has been officially announced yet. "We are going to do a headlining tour the last half of March leading up to Coachella in April which we have confirmed. The only confirmed show is Coachella so we are going to build a tour around that," states Andrew. Not only is Andrew going to be embarking on a headlining tour in 2010 but he is also going to be directing a movie in Cuba, "The whole movie sort of flashed before my eyes once; I got an idea for a film and then this past Christmas in January 2009 I left for Thailand and I just went by myself to a small island. I rented a little cabana on the water and wrote the whole screenplay there," states Andrew.
Chances are if you have been shopping in American Apparel, Express, American Eagle, etc you have heard Miike Snow's music because Andrew told me he still gets text messages from friends stating that they just heard his song while shopping, and maybe you have too.
