Anyone who is a living and breathing realist can attest to the fact that racism still exists in this great nation of ours. We have all experienced it at some point in our life, and for most African American’s it is a constant reminder of the feelings of fear, confusion, and or hatred that have been passed on from generation to generation. It’s the white woman who clutches her purse when a black man gets on an elevator, the looks of confusion in the airport when someone from the middle east boards a plane, the person who begins to talk louder to someone who they know doesn’t speak English as if that is going to break that barrier. We’ve all either experienced one or more of these things, or either have heard countless situations in which this behavior is displayed. Many people fear for the life of President Elect Obama because of their past experiences with racism in America, and it’s sad to say that their fears are not to be thought of as exaggerations.
In fact, this link:news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081114/ap_on_el_pr/obama_threats gives an article which gives accounts about some of the most racist gestures this nation has seen yet.
