A 3-year-old who was reported missing after his day-care school didn't drop him off at his grandmother house Monday evening, was found hours later in the back of the day-care van.

Ronnie Ross was safely reunited with his mother, a Dallas police spokeswoman said.

The Tom Thumb School and Day-Care, in the 2800 block of South Beckley Avenue, was supposed to drop the toddler off at the home his grandmother, Lois Smith, at 6 p.m. Monday. But when the boy's mother, Amber Ross, arrived to pick up her son, he had not arrived, police said. The mother then went to the day care where she found her son in the back of the day care's van.

Dallas firefighters freed Ronnie at about 9 p.m., police said.

Detectives from Dallas police's Crimes Against Children unit will investigate possible charges of child abandonment against the day care, a Dallas police spokeswoman said.

NBC5 reported that the day-care center reopened Tuesday morning.
