The three week, seven game road trip for the Allen Americans ended Friday night with a 6-5 win over the Corpus Christi Ice Rays.
Corpus Christi controlled their end of the ice by outshooting the Americans 38-21. First period goals from Liam Huculak and Tobias Whelan gave the Americans a 2-1 lead.
Just seconds into the second period Corpus Christi knotted the score but Allen responded with two goals to double up the score.
Early in the third period Whelan scored the Americans' first shorthanded goal of the season and gave Allen a three goal lead. Corpus Christi put the pressure on late in the game and inched to within a goal. Goaltender Chris Whitley was tough enough to hold the Allen lead.
Allen sits third in the Central Hockey League's South Conference just behind Odessa and Amarillo.
Tomorrow night the teams meet again in Collin County as the Americans open up the Allen Event Center.
