According to CNN,com, Muhammad was the mastermind behind the Washington-area sniper attacks of 2002, which left 10 dead and terrorized the nation's capital. He was declared dead last night at 9:11 p.m. ET, said Larry Traylor, director of communications for the Virginia Department of Corrections.
His juvenile accomplice Lee Malvo is currently serving life in prison.
Malik Hasan, the alleged Ft Hood shooter could face execution in Texas in a few years as well.
This brings up some interesting issues.
1. Should John Muhammad have been executed?
2. Would your opinion change, if he was mentally ill or mentally retarded?
3. Were you surprised that it took seven years for the judicial process to get to this point?
4. Should his accomplice, then 17 year old Lee Malvo have been executed?
5. If convicted of murder, should Ft Hood shooter Malik Hasan be executed?
6. Do you think it will take more or less time (seven years) for Hasan to be excecuted, assuming he is convicted and sentenced to death?
